About Candi Underwood
Hi there
I’m Candi, a vocal coach and qualified Vocal Health First Aider with 7+ years experience, dedicated to nurturing healthy, resilient voices and inspiring bold, fearless performances. Whether you’re feeling stuck in your progress, grappling with vocal challenges, or eager to explore new frontiers (like screaming!) I’m here to help you break through barriers, refine your technique, and rediscover your confidence. I use functional vocal training, a body‑focused way of working with the voice instead of trying to fit you into a specific musical style.
My approach
I use functional vocal training, a body‑focused way of working with the voice instead of trying to fit you into a specific musical style. At its heart, this method treats your voice like any other part of your body: the breath, the larynx, the resonating spaces, your posture, even the nerves that connect everything. All of these pieces need to move together smoothly so you can make sound efficiently and safely. By starting with the basics, how your anatomy works and how you feel it in motion, I help you build a solid, resilient foundation. Once that’s in place, you’ll find it easy to shift into any genre or artistic direction you want, without the usual strain or frustration.I believe strong vocal technique is the foundation that lets every voice blossom into its own unique and creative expression.
I make people feel safe, supported, more confident, and free to express themselves fully! In my sessions, clients have fun and learn a lot.
I practice what I preach: I can scream and also sing Aretha! I’m a performer with 14+ years of studio and live experience, so I understand firsthand my clients’ challenges and pressures. I've been featured as both a singer and songwriter on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 6Music, Kerrang!, Metal Hammer, Radio X, Planet Rock and more, sung in numerous function bands and theatre productions, been on several UK tours and achieved a BA(Hons) in Professional Musicianship (1:1).
Recently, I collaborated on The Death of Bunny Munro alongside Nick Cave and Matt Smith. I was brought onto the project to give Matt Smith one‑to‑one vocal coaching for a scene in Episode 6 where performs a cover of Elvis’s “Always on My Mind at Proud Cabaret in Brighton.
My mission is to guide performers toward healthier, freer voices. I want people to be able to kick ass and do things they’ve only imagined until now.
Testimonials
“Candi is a superb teacher! Professional, patient, and an absolute delight to work with. As a shy individual who is passionate about singing, she has really put my nerves at ease. I go away knowing exactly what I have to practice lesson to lesson. She really knows her stuff and can explain it to you in a way that demystifies singing. Her lessons are fun, personalised and informative. I’ve made phenomenal progress in no time at all since I started having lessons with Candi. I’ve never had a teacher more dedicated, passionate, and knowledgeable. I’m loving every bit of this journey and so I’d highly recommend!”

“Candice's experience and obvious technical expertise was plainly evident from the start to the end of the lesson. This was an online lesson and although professional, the lesson felt warm and almost tangible, as if I was there with her, so if you have concerns about doing it online rather than in a music studio, fear not!”

“Candi ran a fantastic session for Wham Jam Thank You Ma'am community choir which gave loads of useful information about how the voice works, vocal technique and projection, all done with humour, intelligence and an energetic delivery style that kept everyone engaged. It was a fascinating look at the science behind what we love to do, and will make us think about how we can use our voices more effectively in the future.”
